Over recent years, a continuous process of improvement, expansion and optimisation of the control and supervision systems at the Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) of the Palma del Río solar thermal power station, owned by ContourGlobal, has been carried out.
The project began with modifications to the WTP’s PLCs and HMIs, aimed at correcting and optimising the operation of the existing system, which involved a significant upgrade of the automation architecture and the incorporation of new operational functionalities.
The next phase involved the complete automation of the cleaning system, including on-site assistance for commissioning, functional testing and validation of the new logic.
At a later stage, the two PTAs were completely reprogrammed, retaining the cleaning sequences already implemented and redesigning the SCADA almost from scratch, with the aim of improving the operating interface, alarm traceability and process efficiency. This work also included optimising communications between PLCs, ensuring stable and secure synchronisation between both units.

This set of actions has made it possible to modernise and standardise the PTA control system.
